How to write a good drone prompt
Three things define a drone move: height, speed and direction. Phrases like “low flight”, “rising from the treetops” or “diving off the edge of a cliff” tell the camera where to start and where to go. Pace words such as “slow and calm” or “fast and fluid” shape the result as much as the camera preset.
Describe the scene in layers: what's in the foreground (rocks, rooftops, treetops), what the shot reveals in the middle ground (a lake, a bridge, a bay) and what appears in the background (mountains, a skyline). Add the light and time of day; golden hour, morning mist and blue hour work best for aerial shots.
Which drone move does what?
A pullback or rising reveal is ideal for introducing a location at the start of a video. An orbit circles a structure or object while keeping it centered, which suits scenes with a single focal point such as a hotel, a monument or a balloon.
FPV flythroughs and dives are energetic, fluid and close; they grab attention in music videos, sports and action content. A chase move stays behind a moving subject such as a car, a runner or a boat. Low flyovers and rooftop skims add a sense of speed.
Illustrative footage vs. a real drone shoot
An AI-generated aerial shot is illustrative: it doesn't show a real bay, building or city exactly. If a promo needs real footage of a specific place, such as a plot for sale or a hotel's location, label the scene as illustrative or use a real shoot.
Real drone flights are subject to local aviation rules and flight permits. AI footage doesn't remove those requirements, but it's a way to complete the story in places where you can't get a permit or flying isn't safe.
